2022 Season Preview!

This has been a busy winter and spring for our club! With the musky off season comes the events that we design to help us forget that we can’t go chuck for our favorite toothy critter until the ice melts back into the lakes and rivers where we spend our time in warmer parts of the year. This year was a particularly busy off season as we planned and executed a raffle to help supplement our lost income from not having a boat to raffle this year, represented the club at the Milwaukee Musky Show and planned and executed our banquet and spring seminar. If you didn’t get a chance to attend one or any of these make a note on your calendar for next season!

Moving forward with the season is where I see the real benefit of being a member of this club. We all know how much time on the water pursuing these fish takes. There are several chances to cut down on that learning curve and get some fishing experience with some great fisherman who are happy to share information and happy that people are catching fish.

The first opportunity that happens in the spring is our Spring Musky League. Our league takes place every Wednesday in May (starting May 11 this year) and targets lakes Waubesa and Monona on the Madison Chain. These are up and coming fisheries and it is rare that we have a night where someone doesn’t have some action! Spring league starts at 5:00 pm and ends at 9:00 pm when we meet at the boat landing to discuss our catch for the evening. If you are interested in participating in league this spring we are going to have an organizational meeting after our monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 3rd at My Apartment Bar and Grill in Janesville. Our meetings start at 6:00 pm. Otherwise you could contact a board member for more information at this link!

Our next event is the Spring Mini-Outing which will take place on May 21, 2022. You can fish any lake for the mini-outing but most members choose to fish the Madison Chain of lakes. We hold a wrap-up after every outing and this one is no exception! Our wrap up will be that Saturday at 5:00 p.m. at Tony Dempsey’s property located at 4001 E. County Highway N in Milton. This year we are adding an event to the wrap up for several surrounding high schools who will host a fishing tournament the week before our mini-outing. We will give 7 students a $50 gift card for catching the largest fish in 7 categories. This should be a fun event and hopefully provide us a chance to give these kids a glimpse of what our club does to support young fishermen!

Lastly, consider attending our annual Spring Outing which will happen this year in Boulder Junction, WI from June 17 to the 19th. We will have a pre-outing meeting on Monday June 13 at Gehrig Farms Sporting Clays in Janesville. There are several options for lodging in Boulder Junction. Club members have had a lot of success in our outings over the years. There is always someone willing to provide a tip for where to find a hot bite or even a spot on a boat!

Again, if you are interested in attending any of these events please reach out in any of the several ways listed above. It is an exciting time of year for all of us, we look forward to seeing you on the water and wish you tight lines this season!
